With the weather getting colder and wetter, many nights have been spent rugged up on the couch with a glass of wine and a crochet hook. Much focus has been on knitting beanies, and crocheting woman’s, children’s and babies woolen head bands to keep those noggins nice and snug. As well as, thinking about how we want to spoil all the lovely mum’s out there on Mother’s Day, of course.

With Mother’s Day coming up we wanted to create some special gifts that mum’s could enjoy. Being mother’s ourselves we wanted to think about what we would love to receive. We decided we would love that special gift that could make that cuppa extra cozy, that could make that home cooked meal a little bit more fancy, or that outfit a bit more funky. So, we spent time dying and rolling clay to make beautiful pastel beads that coem together to form some very subtly sweet necklaces. We also crocheted some very cute earrings to match. And with that cool weather setting in we figured that hot tea is going to become more of a regular comfort, and what better way to enjoy it than with a set of crochet coasters.

But with that we also wanted to design something extra special that would spoil those mum’s out there that love beautiful things in their homes. That love their dinning area to stand and and make an impression. So we designed, printed, sewed and crochet edged some beautiful dinner settings. They include a table runner, four place mats and four matching coasters. As we are totally in love with vintage and contemporary ideas joining together we thought what better to way to express our love for this than through a joint project such as this. The vintage fabric has modern diamond/geometrical shapes printed simplistically onto the centre of each dinner set item, with a gorgeous crochet edging to finish it off. The design keeps to a classical theme, with a subtle modern element. So while they bring these styles together they remain quite beautiful and delicate. They can be brought separately; so if you just want to have something small but special sitting on your coffee table then maybe you’d love to enjoy a set of coasters. Or maybe you’d like to set your dinning table off with a table runner. But for those you who like the whole kit and kaboodool, whole sets are available for purchase.

But of course not everything is about mothers (unfortunately), and as everyday is kid’s day we want to make sure they’re nice and snug through the winter months. Over the next few weeks some very warm vintage items will be available on our Etsy store. There will be a variety of jumpers, skirts, overalls and jackets to help protect your little one from the harsh elements, at extremely affordable prices.

The last week has been exciting at Little Mae Rose. We experienced our first market and explored some new and fun techniques in the studio.

Spending sunny days listening to 90′s alternative music was our artistic inspiration this past week. From listening to Grunge and remembering our roots, we decided to throw away the knitting needles for a while. From this an explosion of arm knitting was found and the creation of awesome infinity scarfs were made. We also explored and played with clay, some very cute creatures became pendants and we converted one of our favourite things, ‘Bunting Flags,’ into adorable clay necklaces. It was so nice for us to get back into the studio. While the admin side of business is important and has its perks, for us, being creative is where the heart is.

The first market was a wonderful experience. We shared the day with many quirky and creative characters with market expectations of their own. Some were there for the atmosphere, some for a bargain, some to rid themselves of clutter and some who wanted to sell and share their talents in a variety of arts, crafts, food, and music. The weather was a surprise, as it threatened rain for a week. Instead we were blessed with sun and warmth and loveliness. The holidays brought a quiet crowd, so it wasn’t a busy day, but it did give us the opportunity to talk to many people about their day and receive some great feedback. We learned a lot, and we walked away proud of our achievement. Plus the stall looked great, even if I do say so myself.

Welcome everyone to our online launch and to the opening of our online store. It has been an amazing journey so far, with more than its fair share of learning curves, hand cramps and late nights. However, it has been an exciting and inspiring journey, and potentially a very life-changing one. Here at Little Mae Rose, we hope to share with you our passions as we deliver the cutest vintage children’s fashion and create arts and craft to inspire imagination, adventure and most importantly FUN into the lives, bedrooms, back yards and play areas of the little people you care about most!

Our decision to start a business together may have felt like a flippant plan discussed one day while walking our babes and pondering hopes for the future. Little did we realise at this time that either one of us would have the grit or guts to carry the dream through. Yet here we are. Over the last month, we have knuckled down to pump out some of our intended creative range. We want to show you the diversity of our ideas, from accessories to T-shirts and make believe games, to special wall hangings, and more…

Through this journey our passion for vintage fashion has not been forgotten. We are so happy with our selection and proud to share some truly unique garments with you. They very possibly all have a wonderful history, and with your help their story will continue once they reach your homes.

So let the next part of this incredible journey begin. We look forward to parting ways with our creations and collection. But most importantly we look forward to building a great customer relationship with you.
